Getting Around Midland
Midland is a sprawling city designed around the automobile, and distances between the airport, downtown, hotels, and oilfield offices can be significant. For visitors without a rental car, residents who prefer not to drive after an evening out, and business travelers moving between meetings, reliable taxi and ride services are essential.
The local transportation landscape includes rideshare apps, traditional taxi companies, airport shuttles, executive car services, and public transit. Each option offers different advantages in cost, convenience, and comfort.
How We Ranked These Services
We evaluated availability, reliability, safety, pricing transparency, vehicle quality, customer reviews, and suitability for airport transfers and business travel.
1. Uber
Uber is the most widely used ride service in Midland, offering on-demand rides throughout the city and to Midland International Air and Space Port. Upfront pricing, driver ratings, and ride-tracking features provide convenience and peace of mind. Premium options offer larger or more upscale vehicles for groups and executives.
2. Lyft
Lyft provides a strong alternative with competitive pricing and a similar range of ride options. Many Midland riders compare both apps to find the fastest pickup or best fare, especially during busy evenings and events.
3. Local Taxi Companies
Traditional taxi companies in Midland remain valuable for travelers who prefer to call for a ride, pay in cash, or schedule advance pickups. Local cab operators know the city well and are often available at the airport and major hotels.
4. Airport Shuttle Services
Several shuttle providers offer shared and private rides between the airport and destinations across Midland and Odessa. Shared shuttles are an economical choice for solo travelers, while private shuttles suit families and groups with luggage.
5. Executive Black Car Services
Midland's business community supports a number of executive car services offering luxury sedans and SUVs with professional chauffeurs. These services are ideal for corporate travelers, client entertainment, and important meetings where punctuality and comfort are priorities.

8. Hotel Courtesy Shuttles
Many Midland hotels offer complimentary airport shuttles or local rides within a set radius. Guests should ask their hotel about availability and scheduling, as this can save significant transportation costs.
9. Limousine and Party Bus Companies
For weddings, proms, and celebrations, local limousine and party bus operators provide stylish group transportation with professional drivers. They also offer safe rides for groups attending concerts and events.
10. Crew and Oilfield Transportation Providers
Specialized transportation companies move oilfield workers between lodging and job sites using vans and buses. Companies contract these services to improve safety, reduce vehicle traffic, and keep crews on schedule across the Permian Basin.
Tips for Using Taxis and Rideshares in Midland
Rideshare demand can surge during shift changes, weekend evenings, and major events, so allow extra time or schedule rides in advance. Always verify the driver's name, vehicle, and license plate before entering. For early morning flights, booking a scheduled ride or local taxi the night before offers extra peace of mind. Keep in mind that rural destinations outside city limits may have limited driver availability.
Safety Considerations
Share your trip details with a friend using in-app features, sit in the back seat, and trust your instincts if something feels wrong. Choose licensed and insured providers for scheduled services, and read reviews before booking a private car company.
Choosing the Right Option
For quick trips around town, rideshare apps are usually the most convenient. For budget travel, public transit is unbeatable. Executives and groups may prefer black car and shuttle services for comfort and reliability, while events call for limousines and party buses.
Airport Transportation Tips
Midland International Air and Space Port sits between Midland and Odessa, so travel time to downtown Midland is typically around fifteen to twenty minutes depending on traffic. Rideshare pickups are available in designated areas outside baggage claim, and taxis often wait near the terminal during peak arrival times. For late-night arrivals, scheduling a ride in advance ensures a driver is ready when you land.
Accessibility Options
Riders who use wheelchairs or need extra assistance can request accessible vehicles through select rideshare options and specialized providers. EZ-Rider paratransit service offers curb-to-curb transportation for eligible riders, and some private shuttle companies operate lift-equipped vans upon request.
